gas prices high? make raspberry smores.
the perfect remedy for high gas prices. just four ingredients, a campfire (or tonight, the broiler) and you are just minutes away from bliss. they taste so divine that they'll make all your worries go away. i wish i could bring a whole truck load of them down to new orleans. larry & chris, i hope you are okay...

illustration friday: dreams
aren't we all dreaming of love? i enjoyed painting this one, and it was a bonus that i found this old wood panel in the basement. i took this photograph of my painting against a tree outside right before dusk, the colors are a bit brighter in person. the only thing left to do is give it a nice coat of varnish. :)

my new biking buddy

i got this really neat-o tortoise bicycle squeeze horn. he adorns the front handlebars of my bicycle and loves going for breezy rides along the river. we are a good match because i tend to ride a bit slow sometimes. i'm better at distance than speed. i only have one problem... what to name him? any ideas?

the print exchange was a great experience, thank you

getting ready to bind the books
for those who are new to reading my journal, back in may i put out a call for entries for artists to join in a print exchange project. i was not sure what to expect of the project. would anyone want to participate? what if no one signs up? what if they do not send me their prints? what if i can't do it? these were some of the questions that rolled through my mind when i was about to post the call for entries. much to my amazement, people were interested and began signing up immediately. over the next few months, i organized the project and kept in communication with everyone through group email, one on one email & phone calls. i created a theme for the project which was "found: in japan". it would be a book of different interpretations.
originally i had 12 artists (including myself). towards the deadline, i had one participant drop out, but i was able to get the lovely lynn alpert to take her spot. then just days before the project deadline, another person bailed and did not create their prints. not wanting to hold up the project any longer, i decided to take all 11 artist's prints and still make the 12 books with them (each artist made 12 prints), the 12th book being donated.
over the past few months, i've made a lot of friendships and met a lot of interesting, talented & loving people. i've learned about organizing and directing a project with people thousands of miles away. i've learned to have patience and trust. i've learned to help others and to let others help me. it has been a great experience. thank you.

found: in japan, book online!
i posted the book online (minus the intro & bio pages) for everyone to see. i still need to add a few more things to the project page, like pictures taken during the process, and some goodies people sent me... but for now i hope that everyone enjoys seeing the book & all the gorgeous art.
goodnight, beth

acrylic & graphite on wood
not much to say about this one. i had wood lying around & i decided that i don't draw boys enough. the concept popped into my head last week... i'll leave it open for interpretation.
