Journeys: Observations

acrylic & ink
This is my most recent piece done for the Journeys project. This was really fun for me to do because I love repetition in patterns and layering, so I combined all those things. To read more about why I chose to paint dandelions, and more about the project, click here. I can't wait to see what others choose to do for this theme.

Happiness is...
...pussywillow branches and scented candles. After a long day, it is nice to settle down for supper and be surrounded by the things, and people, you love.
What simple things make you happy?

Merging Styles
Here is an illustration I did last month for an article in a bridal magazine that is distributed out east. The article is about a couple coming together and merging styles in the home.
I hope to do more editorial illustrations in the future because they are really a lot of fun, and is a different side of the business that I'd like to explore.

Illustration Friday: Tattoo
My first thought was a guy with a sailor style tattoo, perhaps because my Grandpa was in the navy (although he is not inked). I did a few sketches on Sunday but it just was not looking right to me. So I closed my sketchbook and went to sleep. Yesterday was a new day and this time my skecthes flowed out a lot easier. I could have sketched all night long. I think being an artist is like that. Some days are good days, some days are bad. Up and down. One day you are inspired and can create anything, the next day everything looks like poo. I wish I could hold onto that magic energy that floats around me on the good days and bottle it up to use whenever I need it.
Anyways, this tough guy is a romantic and wants to give you a flower.

Creative Postcard Club R33: Event Tickets
Here is my design for the CPC's Event Ticket project. I did tickets for a Carrot Festival and the concept is that the ticket stub has a die-cut window with a small packet of carrot seeds in it! The top is the actual ticket, and the bottom is the postcard that I sent out with the ticket design on it. Just something fun I put together. CPC is such a great group, I love getting fun postcards in the mail! I am going to have to get a box to store all of them!

Illustration Friday: Insect
This week is just a little quickie piece, wanting to try a different technique.
When I was little, I liked to catch katydids. Their bodies look like leaves, making them hard to find. There are really neat spiny katydids that live in the rainforest in South America. I've never been to the rainforests to see those kinds. Just the regular green un-spiny Midwest kind.

Journeys Project
Wow, I know it's been awhile since I've posted. Things have been very busy lately and hopefully I'll be posting more often from now on. Just wanted to stop in and say hello and let you know about a collaborative project that I've been working on. It's called "Journeys" and is a year long traveling journal(s) project (the above image is a sample of it). I'm working with 7 other fabulous artists on it, and it has all been very exciting. We have a group blog over at journeysbook.blogspot.com so be sure to check it out. We'll be posting on this site during the entire year of 2006, so bookmark it and check back often! Hope everyone is doing well! Hugs, Beth
